Loon (Salt) – Salt is born from water (evaporation), dissolves in water, but kept outside, it just sits. Paheli 10: The King’s Broken Promise Paheli: ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ: “ਜੋ ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲੇਗਾ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਫਾਂਸੀ। ਜੋ ਜੂਠ ਬੋਲੇਗਾ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ।” ਇੱਕ ਬੁਝਾਰਤੀ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਜੁਗਾੜ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਜਾਣੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ?

Sui (Needle) – It works without hands or feet, stays quiet during the day (inside cloth), and is gone at night. Paheli 2: The Green Guest Paheli: ਨੀਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਹਰਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਪੱਤਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੇਡ਼। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਵੇ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਵੇ, ਬਣਦਾ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੋੜ।

Almari / Box (Locked Trunk) – It has a “mouth” (lock opening) but no teeth. When full, it creaks. Paheli 6: The Blind Singer Paheli: ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਗਾਵੇ ਰਾਤ, ਨਿੱਤ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਗਰ ਬਣਾਵੇ। ਆਪ ਤਾਂ ਰਹੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪਰ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਵੇ।

Paheli: ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਜਲ, ਫਿਰ ਥਲ। ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਗੇ ਮੋਤੀ, ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜੋਤੀ। ਦੱਸੋ ਕਦੋਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ?

Kaan (Wheat Crop) – Golden stems, silver taste (flour). Bows its head (ear of wheat) in the wind. Paheli 12: The Thousand-Mouthed Monster Paheli: ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮੂੰਹ, ਇੱਕ ਢਿੱਡ, ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਕਰੇ ਚੁਰੀ। ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿਆ, ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਲਾ, ਆਪ ਤਾਂ ਮਰੇ, ਸਾਡਾ ਪੇਟ ਪਾਲੇ।

Sijh (Sun) / Samay (Time) – It moves forward constantly (days progressing), but when it “comes back” (retrograde in seasons), plants die. Paheli 9: The Water Prisoner Paheli: ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢੋ ਤਾਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਮਰੇ। ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਦੀ ਯਾਤਰਾ।
